Alumni Explore Investing in China’s Innovation

When it comes to investing in innovation in China, a popular topic for business and economics nowadays, what should people be aware of? For example, what are the definite Dos and Don’ts? To help answer these questions, Mr. Patrick Cheung, Chairman of HGI Capital Holdings, spoke at the ‘Round the Globe Series’, held at CUHK Business School Town Centre on 28 March. The event was organised by the BBA Alumni Association, and attracted over 60 alumni to hear his talk about ‘Investing in Innovation in China’.

A BBA alumnus, Mr. Cheung currently manages investment in venture capital, growth equity investment and innovative business incubation, specialising in internet, technology and consumer-related sectors. Shortly after graduating, he began his journey of entrepreneurship into the innovation business by founding UR Photo in Hong Kong, which was later sold to China Hong Kong Photo Group, a Hong Kong-listed company and the sole agent of Fujifilm in Hong Kong and the mainland. He then founded OOH Media Network Group in Shanghai, which was later sold to Focus Media Group, the largest private media and advertising network in China.

Drawing on his foresight and enriched knowledge and experience, Mr. Cheung shared his views on the China market, as well as success factors for investing in China, particularly in the areas of tech startup and innovative business incubators to meet the demands of the new economy.

“We are greatly honored to have Patrick give a talk. I am sure alumni will have gained a lot of insights about investing in innovation in China,” said Mr. Raymond Lo, the President of the BBA Alumni Association. Last year, Mr. Patrick Cheung was presented with the prestigious CUHK Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter Honoree award in recognition of his successful businesses.
