AGM and Lunch for Alumni in Shanghai

03/04/2017

The Annual General Meeting, co-organised by the CUHK Alumni Association in Shanghai and the CUHK Business School Shanghai Alumni Association, took place on 18 March in Shanghai’s Jadelink Hotel. A networking luncheon added a special touch to the event, enhanced by the presence of the Business School’s faculty members, namely, Ms. Stephanie Villemagne, Associate Dean of Graduate Programs and Director of MBA Programs; Prof. Tianyu Zhang, Professor of the School of Accountancy and Director of the Center for Institutions and Governance; and Mr. Lawrence Chan, Director of Marketing and Student Recruiting of MBA and Master Programs.

Additionally, Ms. Villemagne and Prof. Zhang were invited to be guest speakers at the gathering, which was attended by over 70 alumni. It was Ms. Villemagne’s first time attending an alumni event organised by alumni associations in Shanghai since joining the Business School last August. She briefed alumni on the latest developments within the Business School, and they showed particular interest in the full range of postgraduate programs on offer. “Please, by all means, let us know your comments. We value your input because it helps us improve continuously,” Ms. Villemagne remarked.

Prof. Zhang followed this with a presentation on the topic ‘Media and Corporate Governance’. He explained to the audience the relationship between the media and corporate governance, and how the media can have a powerful impact socially, economically and politically. Drawing on his knowledge and insights, he presented the history and role of the media in China since Mao’s era, as well as his expectations for the Chinese media in the future. “China’s media is changing. The market demands greater professionalism in the media,” he concluded.

The event culminated with the election of the new Executive Committee of the CUHK Business School Shanghai Alumni Association. We offer our congratulations to them. A member list for the Executive Committee can be downloaded here
