The North Asia Management Accounting Leaders’ Summit Ends on a High Note

19/07/2017

The North Asia Management Accounting Leaders’ Summit 2017 concluded on 13 June in LT1 of the Cheng Yu Tung Building. More than 20 opinion leaders, representing different businesses, academic institutions and research organisations from Hong Kong, mainland China, Macau, Taiwan, Japan and other locations in North Asia, spoke to an audience of over 200 financial leaders.

The event was co-organised by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and CUHK Business School. It was sponsored by Ernst & Young Advisory Services Limited and supported by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Meetings & Exhibitions Hong Kong.

Mr. Andrew Harding, Chief Executive of Management Accounting for the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, began the gathering with an opening address. “It gives me great pleasure to be inaugurating this important event. I think we should all be proud of the achievements in management accounting while noting how discipline drives sustainable success in the short and long-term.” Next, Prof. Kalok Chan, Dean of the CUHK Business School, delivered a welcome speech. "Now in its second year, the summit serves as a valuable platform for regulators, businesses and academics in North Asia to exchange views and promote professional excellence. CUHK Business School is very excited to have partnered with CIMA in organising this year's event, and we look forward to working together to impact management accounting across the region.”

Mr. Charles Tilley, Executive Chairman of the CGMA Research Foundation, said in his keynote speech that accountants of the future will need depth and breadth. This observation was the centre of dialogues and panel discussions throughout the summit, which focused on five areas: change management, technology, leadership, sustainability and the next generation.

Dr. William Chen, Chairman of CIMA Hong Kong, concluded the summit with closing remarks, thanking participants for examining issues, sharing insights, debating best practices and exploring management accounting on a deeper level.
