Spreading the Spirit of Volunteerism

One of the visions of the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office is to strengthen unity and instill positive energy in the community through alumni contributing to social causes. On 12 March, 20 enthusiastic alumni visited elderly people in Shamshuipo and networked with each other over lunch. This meaningful gathering was organised by the Ho Kin District Community Centre for Senior Citizens, and was sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen.

Early in the morning, former students, arranged in groups, visited the homes of 18 senior citizens, either living alone or as part of a couple in Shamshuipo’s public housing estates. As well as presenting gift bags to elderly residents, alumni spent time engaging, chatting and laughing with them, and showing respect and care. Alumni then shared a dim-sum lunch with elderly volunteers in a near-by restaurant, where they got to know more about the district work that caters to the needs of the aged in Hong Kong.

The lunch agenda included entertaining games, but the highlight was an appreciation ceremony that honored the efforts of the elderly volunteers. Ms. Cindy Cheung, the Centre-in-Charge, took the opportunity to present a certificate of appreciation to Ms. Florence Lai, Alumni and Corporate Affairs Director, adding, “Please join me in giving Business School alumni a big round of applause for their great work!”

Ms. Lai was touched by the alumni’s enthusiasm and support for volunteerism over the years, saying, “I am truly grateful for our alumni’s time and effort in helping to spread the spirit of giving back to society. Let’s join hands to make Hong Kong a better place for all!”
