A glamorous ritual signals the commencement of the dinner
This year’s Tsinghua-CUHK FMBA (Shenzhen) New Year Party was also a celebration of the programme’s 15th anniversary. VIP guests from the CUHK Business School included Dean Prof. Kalok Chan; Prof. Michael Zhang, Associate Dean (Innovation and Impact); Prof. Jeff Yeung, Director of the EMBA (Chinese) Programme; Dr. Chuck He, Assistant Director of the EMBA (Chinese) Programme; and Ms. Florence Lai, Alumni and Corporate Affairs Director.
The event was held on 12 January in the luxurious ballroom of Le Méridien Xiaojing Bay in Huizhou. Over 300 participants including teachers, and alumni and students from the 2004-2018 Shenzhen intakes, gathered to celebrate the programme’s proud history of 15 years, with an agenda enlivened by entertainment, insight and cherished memories.
The event opened with a half-day China Financial Summit, at which distinguished professors from the CUHK Business School and Tsinghua University as well as industry leaders shared insights on topical themes pertaining to the Greater Bay Area and China-US relations in the wake of the trade war.
The highlight of the evening was a grand dinner for over 30 tables. Welcome remarks were given by Prof. Kang Feiyu, Dean of the Shenzhen Graduate School of Tsinghua University; Prof. Kalok Chan, Dean of the CUHK Business School; and Prof. Xu Xin, Associate Dean of the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University. Fascinating performances included light painting, dancing, singing, solo guitar and a poetry recitation. There were also fabulous lucky draw prizes. “This annual gathering is a delightful opportunity to meet with so many alumni in Shenzhen,” said Ms. Florence Lai, Alumni and Corporate Affairs Director. “I was so touched by their enthusiasm for maintaining close ties with their alma mater.”
Prof. Liu Ming, Director of the FMBA Programme and Executive Associate Dean of the Shenzhen Finance Institute, was also gratified by the resounding success. “This wonderful event is testament to the close-knit bonds that exist between alumni and students. These relationships are the most cherished element of our 15th-anniversary celebrations.”
