The alumni reception provides a great opportunity for former students to get together in a casual and comfortable environment

On 17 October, over 150 alumni and MBA students gathered together for a cocktail reception at the Chairman’s Room, located on the 40th floor of the Futian Shangri-La Hotel in Shenzhen. The event was organised by the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office of CUHK Business School.

The cocktail evening was well-attended by faculty members, including Prof. Michael Zhang, Associate Dean (Innovation and Impact) of CUHK Business School; Prof. David Chan, Director of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management; Prof. Chew Seen Meng, Associate Director of MBA Programmes; Mr. So Chun, Administrative Director of the Executive MBA Programme; Ms. Anne Brouwer Evanno and Ms. Karan Lo, both Assistant Directors of the Career Management Centre for MBA and Masters Programmes; and Ms. Sarah Wong, Senior Manager of the MBA Programme in Finance.

Ms. Florence Lai, Director of the Alumni and Corporate Affairs Office, greeted everyone as she led a toast, along with the delegation of faculty members from Hong Kong. “I’m very happy to meet our alumni in Shenzhen, some of whom have travelled from Hong Kong. We hope this happy gathering will strengthen our alumni relations within Shenzhen, which is one of the fastest-growing cities in China and has a strong alumni presence. Apart from more than 100 alumni here, we also have over 40 MBA students in attendance. This truly is a networking event that connects our alumni, students and faculty,” she said.

During the evening, guests mingled and chatted while enjoying a selection of food and drinks; all against the backdrop of Shenzhen’s stunning skyline, observed from the highest floor of the hotel. There was a genuine sense of pride and unity among alumni from different programmes, industries and generations.

Ms. Lai was delighted to see a full house at the event, adding, “Alumni are our greatest asset. Their continued support is crucial to the development of the Business School – globally and regionally. We will work even harder to build a stronger and bigger alumni community in the years to come!”
