I am very honoured that the University Council has appointed me as the new Dean of CUHK Business School, effective from 9 December 2019. My first week at CUHK has been no less than stimulating. It is a great honour to join an institution of such renown in the Asia-Pacific region. Enriched by the history of a city where east meets west, CUHK is defined by its multicultural approach to higher education. Having worked for Yale, Duke and ASU in the United States for almost two decades and then Shanghai Jiao Tong University where I served as Dean of Antai College of Economics and Management during 2010-2018, I wholeheartedly embrace CUHK’s approach and hope to bring my own experiences and perspectives in promoting it.
I am joining CUHK at a critical moment in history. You might be aware that the recent social unrest in Hong Kong has caused some disruption to the learning activities of the University, but with the hard work of all colleagues we have gradually restored the situation. I believe that Hong Kong and CUHK will come out even stronger when the dust settles, and I humbly call for your full support as we navigate the future together.
Our long history, mission-driven work and extensive alumni network – many of whom are leaders in their fields – will ensure our continued relevance in Hong Kong, Asia and the world. As we aspire to develop global leaders for the Asian Century, I am assured of our success because we have all the necessary elements: people, passion and perseverance. Let us build on this strong foundation and continue pushing forward.
May I wish you and your family a wonderful holiday filled with love, joy, peace and hope!
I look forward to meeting and working with you all.
