In recent years, an increasing number of CUHK Business School alumni have chosen to give back by establishing scholarships — supporting outstanding students in pursuing their aspirations while passing on the values and vision that once carried them forward.

Steve Ng (MBA 1971), now settled in Canada, established the “Tang Kee-Chan Memorial Scholarship” two years ago in honour of his late father-in-law, Mr Tang Kee-chan – the legendary “King of Comedy” of Hong Kong. The scholarship recognises and supports talented MBA students at CUHK. During Steve’s recent family visit to Hong Kong, CUHK Business School Alumni Affairs and Development Office together with the MBA Programme Office arranged a heartfelt reunion, bringing him to meet Sarah Lee, this year’s scholarship recipient.

Sarah, currently in her second year of the part-time MBA programme, excels academically while also actively championing innovation and entrepreneurship among her peers through extra-curricular initiatives. A CUHK IBBA graduate with deep-rooted connections to the Business School, she now serves as Assistant Manager at Orient Overseas (International) Limited (OOIL), where she joined as a management trainee nearly six years ago.

In a delightful coincidence, Steve had also worked at the same company before emigrating to Canada in 1975. On the day of their meeting, he brought several pieces of the company’s memorabilia from Canada in which he has kept for over five decades as gifts for Sarah, sparking lively conversations about his early career. The two spoke enthusiastically — from their shared MBA experience to the evolution of the shipping and logistics industry in the Greater Bay Area and beyond — finding much in common and sharing many laughs. Steve’s generosity has not only forged this connection spanning nearly half a century; it will keep lighting the way for many more CUHK MBA students to come.
