Alumni 101 | Hidden stories behind teaching buildings – Fung King-hey’s surprising link to CUHK Business School
The new “Alumni 101” playbook is the 2026 must-read for CUHK Business School alumni! We’ll serve up hidden campus gems, fresh buzz and alumni must-knows — bite-sized, two-minute reads that bring you closer to your alma mater and keep the connection fresh and lasting.
Hop on the CUHK shuttle from main campus up the hill and you will glide past the Fung King Hei Building, home to the Faculty of Arts. Fun fact: Mr Fung King-hey, co-founder of Sun Hung Kai, was instrumental in the development of CUHK Business School.
Back in 1977, Mr Fung joined Dr Cheng Yu-tung and fellow business leaders to fund Hong Kong’s first three-year, part-time MBA programme at CUHK — laying a foundation that has nurtured generations of visionary business leaders. His son, Mr Tony Fung, endowed a professorship in his late father’s name; details here.
As Business School alumni, you are perhaps no stranger to the Cheng Yu Tung Building. In 2010, the home of the Faculty of Business Administration moved from the Leung Kau Kui Building (next to Fung King Hey Building) to the 15-storey Cheng Yu Tung Building by the MTR station. Today, a public transport interchange sits right outside, with Hyatt Regency Sha Tin next door and the CUHK Medical Centre opposite — offering superb connectivity.
Three CUHK buildings each bear witness to different chapters of the Business School’s evolution. With CUHK Alumni Homecoming on the horizon, perhaps it is time to revisit old haunts and savour cherished memories?
