Technology Start-ups and Unicorns Big Health Industry: Before and Beyond Medicine

Innovation is a hot topic not only in Hong Kong but also around the world. If we want to understand more about the future, we need to learn more on the recent trends in Innovation and Technology (I&T). Co-organising with the Chinese Executives Club of the Hong Kong Management Association, the CUHK BBA Alumni Association’s “Into the Future Series: Technology Start-ups and Unicorns”is going to unveil these fast growing companies.

We are honoured to have Professor Jun WANG to be our guest speaker for the upcoming seminar. Professor Jun WANG, PhD (Molecular Biology),  University of Winconsin-Madison, was an academic staff in the Department of Biochemistry, CUHK. He is the Founder/CEO of GeneHarbor (Hong Kong) Biotechnologies Ltd, a world-leading synthetically biology company with a numbers of original technology innovations. Focusing on the development of novel enzymatic synthesis of health products, he has been working in universities, biotech companies in China, USA, Australia and Hong Kong for over 40 years, and is the inventor/co-inventors of more than 100 patents. GeneHarbor, the company he created, has been named Hong Kong’s only unicorn enterprise in the field of biotechnology in 2021.

Big Health (大健康) industry has gained increasing popularity among investment circle. The current focus of the industry is medicine, bio-medicine in particular. However, nutritional supplements and functional foods represent much larger market and brighter future projected by both scientific principles and commercial logics.

The talk catalogs the major categories of nutritional supplements that genuinely benefit human being; and elaborates NMN (Nicotiamide mononucleotide), a newly emerging “unprecedented & close-to-ideal” anti-aging product in details. With Professor Wang’s R&D and I&T experience, we believe all of us would have a thorough understanding of the Big Health Industry and learn the latest trend of “from Bed-side to Bench-side” in the I&T ecosystem.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the arrangement of the seminar may change. BBA Alumni Association would update the latest arrangement as soon as possible.
