The Global Alumni Ambassador (GAA) Programme, initiated by the CUHK Business School Alumni Office, has officially reached the midpoint of its third cohort. Comprising 84 dedicated ambassadors spanning five continents, GAAs have been instrumental in fostering overseas alumni networks, particularly in regions where alumni associations have yet to be established. To mark this mid-term milestone, they recently gathered at an online Town Hall to exchange insights and co-create strategies for enhancing alumni engagement in the coming year.

The session commenced with a warm address from Professor Zhou Lin, dean of CUHK Business School. Thanking the GAAs for their selfless dedication, Professor Zhou urged them to keep harnessing their shared influence to bring the Business School community together and represent the School with pride around the world.

To foster deeper dialogue, this year’s Town Hall featured tailored breakout groups based on shared background and regional context. GAAs shared candid insights into the realities of building local networks, delivering practical recommendations directly to the Alumni Office. In areas with smaller or scattered alumni populations, GAAs are going to particularly focus on serving as the “face” of CUHK Business School, raising its profile while creating impactful ways to contribute to the broader community.

As the second half of the cohort’s tenure gets underway, the Alumni Office will work hand-in-hand with the GAAs to roll out these actionable plans, continuing to expand the reach and impact of the CUHK Business School global alumni network.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) remains the top choice for high achievers in Hong Kong through JUPAS this year. Among the 14 top scorers who achieved 5** in five subjects, one was admitted to the Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science Programme, jointly offered by the Faculty of Business Administration and the Faculty of Science.

Meanwhile, 15 CUHK programmes admitted top students with a score of 33 or above in their best five HKDSE subjects, including three programmes from the Business School: Global Business Studies, Quantitative Finance, and Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science.

Organised by the CUHK Business School Alumni Affairs and Development Office, the “Alumni Workshop: Strategic Negotiation Management” was successfully held on the evening of 24 June. Building on the overwhelming response to the previous session, we were delighted to once again welcome Gary Lo, renowned corporate trainer, founder of Glo Consulting and TEDx speaker, as our guest speaker.

The session drew over 70 alumni from diverse industries, all participating with great enthusiasm. With a focus on practical application, it offered a clear breakdown of a systematic framework for effective business negotiation, while also exploring the art of value creation and conflict resolution. Alumni engaged actively, putting newly learned strategies into practice through role play exercises and exchanging reflections as they refined their negotiation approach.

With more exciting alumni activities on the horizon, we look forward to bringing everyone together again very soon!

The CUHK Business School MScMKT Alumni Network has recently been inaugurated, with its committee members taking up the responsibility of serving MScMKT alumni worldwide. Liberty Li (MScMKT 2012), the first chief representative, shares his vision for the Network and warmly invites alumni to join hands in strengthening the community and enhancing cohesion across regions.

Q1. Can you give a brief introduction of yourself?

I completed the MScMKT programme from CUHK Business School in 2012. After graduation, I chose to remain in Hong Kong and now work at Chu Kong Shipping, specialising in logistics and supply chain.

Although my time at CUHK was only a year, the School’s strong academic atmosphere and the professors’ dedication gave me a profound sense of belonging. When invited in 2024 to serve as a mentor in the inaugural MScMKT Mentorship Programme, I readily returned to the School. In 2025, I further joined the effort to establish the MScMKT Alumni Network, hoping to contribute to the wider alumni community.

 

Q2. What is the vision and plan for the CUHK Business School MScMKT Alumni Network in the coming year?

We uphold the principle of “by alumni, for alumni, serving alumni”. In the next one to two years, we aim to build a more interactive and practical professional platform, focusing on three dimensions:

• Career development: Supporting new graduates by drawing on the experience of senior alumni to guide career planning.

• Cross platform connections: Organising activities that link graduates across cohorts and other alumni groups, for example, forming a “Tennis Club” to participate in inter alumni sports events and strengthen bonds.

• Industry-academia sharing: Leveraging corporate resources to offer diverse activities such as company visits, enabling alumni and students to gain industry insights and foster deeper collaboration.

 

Q3. What role do you think the Alumni Network will play within the wider alumni community?

The MScMKT Alumni Network serves both as a “custodian” and a reliable pillar for alumni. It currently covers five regions, including Hong Kong, the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta (Shanghai), Beijing and Southwest China, connecting over 400 alumni. We hope more will join to further strengthen the Network.

We also recognise that a lack of local information or experience can leave students feeling uncertain as they navigate studying or working in Hong Kong. Guided by the desire to pay it forward and support those following in our footsteps, we aim to create a framework where senior alumni share experiences to help forthcomers bypass common pitfalls. The Network strives to be a steadfast companion in both life and career, enabling alumni to advance with clarity and conviction.

 

Q4. Do you have any message for CUHK Business School MScMKT alumni?

CUHK Business School is our root, and we warmly invite alumni to come home often. The Network is a platform to share insights and access the latest industry perspectives. Wherever you are, we look forward to your participation in building this family together and creating more opportunities for shared success.

CUHK Business School Taiwan Alumni Association organised a warm and engaging “Sanyi Cultural Getaway” on 16 May, drawing the enthusiastic participation of nearly 30 alumni. Led by President Tsai Shu-chuan [EMBA (Asia Pacific) 2010], the group was also joined by Dr Rosette Leung, Co-Director of the Global Business Studies Programme, Associate Director of the Integrated BBA Programme, and Lecturer in the Department of Marketing, who travelled alongside alumni to share a wonderful time in Sanyi, Miaoli.

The itinerary was rich and culturally fulfilling. The group first visited Greenery Forest in Yuanli, Miaoli, to immerse themselves in the scenic countryside, followed by a luncheon featuring authentic local Hakka cuisine. In the afternoon, the alumni proceeded to visit the woodcarving museum, where the association’s treasurer Lee Chia-yu [EMBA (Asia Pacific) 2010] serves.

Alumni made the most of the trip to network, exchange insights, and renew bonds, concluding the event on a high note with anticipation already building for the next gathering.

The CUHK Business School Alumni Office recently held another “Lunch & Learn with C Suite Alumni” session to feature Simon Lam (EMBA 2016), Co-CEO of China Pacific Life Insurance (Hong Kong) Co. Ltd. and immediate past President of the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong, who was joined by MScASI and MScBA students for lunch and an in-depth discussion.

Drawing on his extensive actuarial experience, Simon shared unique insights into the outlook for the insurance industry. Addressing the rise of AI, he analysed how insurers can actively harness the transformative advantages of artificial intelligence.

On the topic of career planning, which students were most eager to explore, Simon offered detailed guidance. He outlined the career trajectories of actuaries and analysts, highlighting the essential skills and attributes required to enter the profession. This “Lunch & Learn” session not only broke through classroom boundaries but also illuminated the path ahead for students’ future careers.

CUHK Business School has received a generous donation of HK$20 million from Mr Tony Song, Group CEO of Apex Logistics International Group (Apex Logistics), in support of the establishment of the AI Hub for Business (the Hub), a strategic initiative dedicated to advancing AI-powered research and applications in the business domain.

As the first business school in Hong Kong to house a dedicated AI Hub for Business, CUHK Business School will leverage high-performance computing capabilities and specialised personnel to drive cross-disciplinary research in business management, supply chain management, aviation management, global e-commerce, accounting and beyond. By applying advanced AI technologies within a rigorous business research framework, the Hub aims to generate impactful scholarship that informs industry practice and public policy while attracting premier partnerships, competitive funding, and top AI talent.

CUHK Business School and Apex Logistics also plan to deepen their collaboration in logistics and supply chain research moving forward to tackle industry challenges and drive practical technological innovation.

Professor Zhou Lin, dean of CUHK Business School, expressed his sincere appreciation: “We are profoundly grateful to Mr Song for his visionary generosity. Apex manages over four thousand charter flights annually and was ranked China’s No. 1 airfreight service provider in 2024. Meanwhile, it also achieves a global ocean container volume of 260,000 TEUs annually.

The Hub, located in the Cheng Yu Tung Building on CUHK’s Shatin campus, is expected to commence operations in the third to fourth quarter of the year.
