Swinging into success: Business School alumni reconnect in Beijing
Following a one-year hiatus, the CUHK Business School Alumni Office returned to Beijing on 12 September for a unique sports-themed gathering at Chaoyang Park. Blending physical activity with high-level industry dialogue, the event offered alumni a fresh, dynamic way to reconnect and explore emerging business trends. Themed around the sports sector — a market rapidly expanding towards China’s national RMB 7 trillion target — the gathering kicked off with an energetic pickleball session to break the ice. The highlight of the event was an insightful industry dialogue featuring a panel of distinguished leaders and alumni: Li Meng [EMBA (Chinese) 2015], national technical official for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games; Chen Liang (FMBA 2016), partner at Beijing’s largest single-level sports complex; and Feng Huanhuan, CEO of F-Sports Promotions Limited. Moderated by Dr Gentiana Cheung, programme director of the MSc in Sports Business Management at CUHK Business School, the panellists explored the growth potential, market opportunities, and key operational hurdles shaping the sector. Blending macro policy insights with practical expertise in commercial sports hubs, the discussion examined innovative business models driving the new wave of sports consumption. The speakers also offered strategic advice on how alumni can leverage their existing professional strengths to venture into new domains. Following the discussion, alumni gathered for a networking luncheon in the scenic surroundings of Chaoyang Park. The occasion drew strong representation across diverse industries and graduating programmes, with warm support from Chan Chun [EMBA (Chinese) 2018], president of the EMBA (Chinese) Alumni Association, and Dai Xiaoyuan (FMBA 2002), president of the FMBA Alumni Association.
