CUHK Business School Alumni – Anywhere, Everywhere: A Tapestry of Colours
Since its inauguration in 1963, CUHK Business School has been grooming future leaders and growing beautiful relationships. Ricky Tsang (IFAA 2009) and Jennifer Lin (IBBA 2009) are worlds apart at first glance – Ricky is rather easy-going while Jennifer is a typical hothead, but they have maintained lifelong ties, first as cabinet members of student association in CUHK Business School, then as case competition teammates and eventually life partners. They attract and enrich each other, like threads of different hues woven into a colourful tapestry.
Having established in investment banking, Ricky attributes his success to his wife Jennifer. The two crossed paths at an inter-school activity back in high school, and went to CUHK Business School one after the other. Fate had Jennifer steer Ricky away from the actuarial profession to investment banking as she talked him into applying for a summer internship at Goldman Sachs just two hours before the application deadline. It was, in hindsight, a pivotal moment in Ricky’s life as he went from going with the flow to indeed striving to write his own future.
Jennifer and Ricky had a fruitful university life together at CUHK Business School
The couple describes their lives in CUHK Business School as “an experience of growing together”. Despite being polar opposites in terms of personality, Ricky and Jennifer complement each other in many ways. “We have different specialties: he works in the financial industry and I, marketing. We look at things from different angles. So if we bring together our own perspectives, we can have a full picture,” says Jennifer. Slowly and steadily, they started to find common denominators between them as they learned from each other, whereas exchanges with fellow classmates and alumni widened their horizons too. “We have benefited a lot from our alma mater, so we want to give back, whether as judge of the Academic Cup or a guest speaker in career talks.”
After graduation, they still return to the campus from time to time, reminiscing about the old days and contributing through various ways, including sharing their industry knowledge as guest speaker (second photo)
People with different personalities and from different backgrounds have met and struck sparks off each other in the past 60 years at CUHK Business School, where friendships, family ties, and business opportunities were forged. It will continue to be so in the next chapter of CUHK Business School. Stay tuned for more beautiful stories to come!
