I’m the Head of Marketing for Australia and New Zealand at Alibaba Group. My major duty is to enhance the brand’s presence and implement strategic plans in the region. I oversee local marketing and government affairs strategy as well as build relationships with Government trade agencies across Australian States, the federal government, New Zealand, Fiji, and the Pacific Islands. I also work closely with various business chambers, with the common goal of facilitating Australian and New Zealand businesses to thrive on a global stage.

While my company’s vision is to enable our users to do their business anywhere easily, I also develop and oversee all local B2B and B2C marketing initiatives that are in line with this vision.

Q2. Please describe Melbourne in three words.

Vibrant, Multicultural, Scenic

Vibrant: Melbourne is famous for its lively culture, diverse arts scene, and bustling street life. The city hosts numerous festivals and events, creating a constant buzz of excitement. Its dynamic atmosphere is also filled with boundless creativity and energy.

Multicultural: Melbourne truly embraces and celebrates its cultural diversity. Its residents have the luxury of indulging in ample choices of international cuisines and cultural festivals, and embody a global mindset that is embedded in their everyday lives. Melbourne’s diverse population fosters immense potential and continuous growth, drawing strength from the varied perspectives and talents of its people from all walks of life.

Scenic: Located among beautiful landscapes and parks, Melbourne offers a visually stunning environment. From the iconic Yarra River to the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens, you will find yourself surrounded by natural beauty amid the bustling urban life. It’s a place where residents can enjoy a serene and visually appealing backdrop.

Q3. Which industry do you see strong business potential in Australia and why?

Australia is known for its environmentally friendly and organic image, excelling in providing numerous high-quality goods and ingredients worldwide. In this regard, industries like health and wellness, beauty and skincare, and mother and infant products are of strong potential. Moreover, with Australia’s significant international economic connections, there are abundant opportunities to incorporate diverse cultural perspectives in different sectors.

Q4. What is the one thing you miss the most during your study at CUHK Business School, and that you look forward to doing again?

I certainly miss the close bond with my dear schoolmates. The shared experiences, from rushing for the school bus to exploring the canteen and spending time in the library, hold a special place in my heart. Even now, some of the most important relationships that have lasted are with those who were part of my IBBA journey.
