Synopsis:
Suk-jing (played by Hedwig Tam), a woman in her 30s, has recently become a mother. While the arrival of her baby girl brings happiness and joy, it also comes with unexpected changes and overwhelming pressures. Despite holding a full-time job as a baker, she is naturally expected to be her daughter’s primary caregiver — day and night — making her the first to be blamed whenever the baby is unwell or cries inconsolably.
Her husband (played by Lo Chun-yip), a delivery driver, remains detached from parenting, living much the same way as he did before their child was born. Meanwhile, conflicts with her live-in in-laws over childcare and traditional gender roles add to her frustrations, yet returning to her own family no longer feels like an option. Sleep deprivation, postpartum changes, and the constant demands of motherhood begin to take a toll on her well-being, even affecting the job she values so deeply. The so-called “side effects” of becoming a mother seem to permeate every aspect of her life.
Determined to be a “good mother”, Suk-jing pours everything into her new role — only to feel herself slowly disappearing in the process. As she endures night after night of caring for her child in solitude, what awaits her at the break of dawn?
