Organised by Run to Your Home Charitable Foundation Limited, the 4th annual Run for Vision was held on a rainy Sunday on 23 December 2018. Prof. William Wan, Co-Director of the EMBA Programme, and Mr. Howard Ling, Chief Consultant of the HKCSS–HSBC Social Enterprise Business Centre, officiated at the opening ceremony at Edinburgh Place, and the relay runners set off at 8:30am.
The run raised funds for Run to Your Home projects in support of youth, the elderly, the disabled and those affected by poverty. Thirty-five teams participated in the relay along 50km of Hong Kong coastline, with the runners organised in pairs comprising a corporate-sponsor guide runner and a runner with a disability. One of the Foundation founders, Mr. Daniel Lo (EMBA 2010), remarked: “We hope for the corporate athletes to discover that runners with a visual impairment, as well as those with an intellectual disability, can perform just as well as individuals with no disability. With the guide runners there to enable all of our athletes to run together, the event delivered a strong message about connection and inclusiveness.”
In addition to the relay, a Christmas Charity Carnival was introduced this year, featuring over 70 booths selling DIY and charity goods, interesting games for kids, and guided tours led by Seeing Eye dogs. Over 500 children from the We R Family Foundation and Benji’s Centre, as well as low-income families, were invited to join the carnival in celebration of the festive season. On stage, over 10 performances by NGOs and schools also contributed to the joyful atmosphere.
Prof. Andrew Chan, Co-Director of the EMBA Programme, and Dr. Bernard Chan, JP, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, officiated at the event’s closing ceremony. Remarked Prof. Chan: “Progress in society is not just a matter of how quickly the most advanced segment can move to the top of the ladder. What matters is how a society can achieve cohesion and lend a hand to those in need.”
Run to Your Home is a registered charitable foundation established in 2011 by a group of enthusiastic EMBA graduates with a mission to strengthen social cohesion and instil positive energy in the community. Through its annual run, the foundation aims to underscore its guiding principle: “We Cohere, We Cherish, We Create”.
