    The “Global Yijing” lecture series situate the Yijing studies in the broad context of the global circulation of texts and ideas. We are honoured to have Professor Dennis K. H. Cheng, Professor Tze-ki Hon, Professor John T. P. Lai and Professor Benjamin NG Wai-ming to be our speaker for the series.

    In the upcoming “Global Yijing” lecture series, we would like to invite renowned international scholars to share their valuable insights. For the lecture to be held in late September we are honoured to have invited Professor Bang In, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy of Kyungpook National University, to be our speaker. Prior to his work in Kyungpook National University, Prof. Bang received his Ph.D. degree from Department at SNU (Seoul National University). He was a Visiting Scholar at the Harvard-Yenching Institute in U.S.A. and the Centre for Korean Research of the UBC (The University of British Columbia) in Vancouver. Professor Bang is the author of the books Semiotic Reading of Dasan Jeong Yagyong’s Zhouyizian, Dasan Jeong Yagyong’s Introductory Remarks on the Study of the Changes: Rewriting the History of the Interpretation of the Zhouyi and Four Methods of Interpretation on the Zhouyi with translation and annotation.

    In the September lecture, Professor Bang will share his findings on the Influence of Joachim Bouvet’s Geometrical interpretation on the “Qimeng Fulun” of the Zhouyi Zhezhong. Joachim Bouvet was one of the six Mathematiciens du Roy sent to China by Louis XIV of France and he taught mathematics to the Emerpor Kangxi, and Kangxi advised him to study the relationship between mathematics and Yijing. Professor Bang will discuss the Pythagoras theorem, theory of the Chinese origins of Western Learning, Pascal’s triangle as well as Bouvet’s diagram of Heaven’s exaltedness and earth’s lowliness. Don’t miss the chance to learn Yijing from a meaningful perspective.
