First alumni event of 2025: Welcoming spring with Beijing alumni

After a year’s hiatus, the CUHK Business School Alumni Office returned to Beijing, hosting a large-scale alumni gathering on 16 March (Sunday) to mark the first alumni event of 2025 and welcome the arrival of spring.

The event, focused on the film industry, was generously supported by the Cultural and Creative Association of the FMBA Alumni Association . Building on the success of Ne Zha 2, alumni enthusiastically registered for the China National Film Museum tour organised exclusively for them. Led by an expert museum guide, the tour provided alumni with a comprehensive insight into the century-long development and outstanding achievements of Chinese cinema.

The museum’s priceless collection and breathtaking visual installations left the alumni in awe.

Following the tour, the event proceeded to its main highlight — the “Film Industry Executive Dialogue”. We were honoured to welcome Professor Yin Hong from Tsinghua University, also vice chairman of the China Film Association, as the guest speaker, with Dong Ning (FMBA 2013), deputy general manager of Beijing Performance & Arts Group , serving as the guest moderator. Together, they explored China’s dynamic film industry and engaged in an in-depth conversation.

Dong Ning used Ne Zha 2 as a starting point to explore the pivotal elements behind the global ascent of Chinese cinema. Professor Yin traced the evolution of Chinese film’s international influence, from the early impact of martial arts films on foreign cinema to Ne Zha 2‘s seamless incorporation of Chinese cultural nuances, illustrating the immense potential for Chinese cinema to make its mark on the global stage. He stressed that the key to a film’s success lies in its ability to meet the ever-evolving tastes of contemporary audiences and forge a deep, emotional connection with them. With the growing international prominence and continually rising production quality of Chinese films, he believes that the industry is poised to reach even greater heights in the future.

Guests interacted with attending alumni.

Professor Yin Hong (second from left), Dong Ning (FMBA 2013) (first from left), and Han Shengwei (FMBA 2018) (first from right), the event emcee, were presented with certificates of appreciation by Professor Zhou Lin (second from right), dean of CUHK Business School.

Subsequently, alumni made their way to the China World Summit Wing for the Alumni Luncheon, where they had the opportunity to gather with Professor Zhou Lin, dean of CUHK Business School, alongside representatives from the various programme offices and the Alumni Office. The luncheon was attended by over a hundred alumni from diverse programmes and industries, and received strong support from several alumni association presidents based in Beijing. These include Michael Ma (BBA 1988) of the Beijing Alumni Association, Chen Jun [EMBA (Chinese) 2018] of the EMBA (Chinese) Alumni Association, Dai Xiaoyuan (FMBA 2002) of the FMBA Alumni Association, and Derek Ho from the CUHK Beijing-Tianjin Alumni Association.

Professor Zhou Lin, dean of CUHK Business School, delivered a welcome speech at the event.

Guests raised their glasses in a toast to celebrate the gathering of CUHK Business School alumni in Beijing.

The evening’s spectacular performances featured the Bauhinia Choir , who brought two well-loved songs to the stage, earning resounding applause for their remarkable performances and dedication.

The beautiful voices of the Bauhinia Choir left a lasting impression on the hearts of all present. Following the stunning performance, the group was presented with certificate of appreciation by Professor Zhou and the Alumni Office.

The thriving CUHK Business School alumni community owes much to the unwavering commitment of its members. To express gratitude, the Business School took the opportunity to acknowledge the CUHK Business School Beijing Alumni Association, EMBA (Chinese) Alumni Association, and FMBA Alumni Association, with Professor Zhou presenting certificates of appreciation to their presidents.

No gathering is complete without a lucky draw, and this occasion was no exception! Lucky alumni received prizes generously prepared by the Alumni Office. The room was filled with laughter as alumni seized the opportunity to reconnect, share updates, and reminisce about their school days. We look forward to creating more networking opportunities for alumni around the world and strengthening the bonds within the CUHK Business School alumni community.
