CUHK Business School launches a new scholarship to honour Dr Yang Ju-mei and recognise top PACC students

CUHK Business School is proud to announce the establishment of the Yang Ju-mei Memorial Scholarship, generously funded by the TUYF Charitable Trust. This scholarship aims to honour and celebrate the significant contributions of Dr Yang Ju-mei in the field of accounting education. It will be awarded to students from the BBA in Professional Accountancy (PACC) Programme who achieve academic excellence, particularly in courses with STEM elements, which are essential for driving innovation and progress.

Starting in the 2024/25 academic year, the scholarship will award HK$50,000 to each recipient. This initiative not only recognises outstanding academic achievements but also encourages students to equip themselves with the critical skills needed to tackle future challenges.

Professor Zhou Lin, dean of CUHK Business School, and Professor Yang Yong, director of the School of Accountancy, express their appreciation and gratitude to the TUYF Charitable Trust. Professor Zhou stated, “The generous donation from the TUYF Charitable Trust is a testament to the enduring legacy of Dr Yang Ju-mei and a notable recognition for our PACC students. We are truly appreciative of the support in fostering academic excellence.”

Dr Yang Ju-mei, born in Cixian, Hebei province, China, was the founding dean of Commerce and Social Science at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1965. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in Economics in 1923, followed by a master’s degree in 1924 and a PhD in 1926. Upon returning to China, Dr Yang taught at several universities and held managerial positions in various banks. He joined New Asia College in 1949. His publication, “Goodwill and Other Intangible Changes in Monetary Value and Problem of Conversion,” continues to influence the field of accounting, contributing to more accurate and comprehensive financial reporting.
