Business strategies infused with social purpose are gaining prominence, offering more than just brand enhancement — they also drive sustainable growth. The inaugural session of the 2024 Alumni Lecture Series features Simon Cheung (IBBA 2003), Managing Director of Nestlé Hong Kong Limited, shedding light on how the company embraces its social mission to make meaningful contributions to society.

The Alumni Lecture Series, jointly organised by the CUHK Business School’s Alumni Office and Undergraduate Programme, took place on 1 February, attracting over 200 students and alumni both in-person and online. In his address, Dr Fred Ku, associate dean for Undergraduate Studies, highlighted the School’s commitment to nurturing forward-thinking and impactful business leaders. Many outstanding alumni, holding prominent positions across various fields, actively contribute to their alma mater by sharing valuable experiences and knowledge with fellow students.

During his sharing, Simon emphasised that the sustained success of businesses stems from their ongoing creation of shared value for society and stakeholders. He pinpointed that corporations with a social mission can positively impact society, the economy, and the environment through their core business activities. Subsequently, Dr Fred Ku moderated a lively Q&A session where students and alumni eagerly posed questions to Simon, seeking insights into the challenges corporations encounter when fulfilling their business with social purpose.

As the event came to a close, Simon invoked CUHK’s motto, “Through learning and temperance to virtue”, encouraging students to strive for their fullest potential, acquire more knowledge, and equip themselves to enhance their competitiveness. The event concluded amidst enthusiastic applause, marking a successful end.
