Alumni Association Series: Quantitative Finance and MBA GBA Chapter
The CUHK Quantitative Finance Alumni Association
Officially founded in 2016, the CUHK Quantitative Finance Alumni Association (QFAA) is currently chaired by Fiona Chou (BSc in QFRM 2014), who wishes to forge stronger ties among the alumni in the community and with the school via organising communication groups and networking events.
Dialogue with the President
Q1. What is your current job? Please briefly describe your professional work scope or responsibilities.
I am currently an assistant portfolio manager at APG Asset Management (APG). APG is one of the world’s largest pension investors managing for pension funds and their 4.7 million participants in total represented a value of EUR613 billion. I am currently covering private infrastructure investment opportunities across APAC, spanning from utilities, transportation, energy to social infrastructure. My responsibilities is to evaluate investment opportunities, lead key due diligence workstreams, conduct valuation analysis and participate in negotiation, tax structuring and asset management.
Q2. When did you become the President of the CUHK Quantitative Finance Alumni Association and what is your vision for it in the wider alumni community?
I have been the President of QFAA since 2016, the year it officially established. Through QFAA, we aim to strengthen the alumni bonding and make our alumni proud with a strong connection.
Q3. What kind of activities/ engagement does the Alumni Association usually organise, or can you introduce to us some of the highlight activities in the past?
We introduced a “class representatives” model to foster effective communication and we managed to raise scholarship funds for current students. We also hosted several big networking events (e.g. hiking, happy hours and a retirement party for Professor Dennis Fan) and speaker series (experts and alumni sharing experience and knowledge) with high attendance since launch.
The Alumni Association organised regular hikes before the pandemic
The speaker series was well-received by the alumni
Q4. Can you share with us upcoming plans of the Alumni Association in 2021/22?
Given the challenging COVID situation this year, we have no choice but to postpone our events until the situation gets better. We hosted two panel sessions titled “Reinventing your career in in Covid-19” in 2020/21, and we may potentially repeat that to provide guidance to current students or alumni who are in transit of their career. If possible, we also wish to host a couple of happy hours and hiking.
