CUHK Business School Shenzhen Alumni Association
Found in 2017, the CUHK Business School Shenzhen Alumni Association (Shenzhen AA) runs in line with the stewardship efforts of an executive committee from diverse backgrounds ranging from finance to technology, and from logistics to law. The current President is Ruisheng Sheng (EMBA 2014).

Dialogue with the President

Q1. What kind of activities/ engagement does Shenzhen Alumni Association usually organise, or can you introduce to us some of the highlight activities in the past?

Shenzhen AA attaches great importance to the promotion of entrepreneurship and its practical applications. With this in mind, we have formed a sub-committee on innovation and entrepreneurship to drive the engagement of the teaching staff, alumni and students of CUHK and CUHK Shenzhen in relevant pursuits. Through the contribution of 24 veteran CUHK and CUHK Shenzhen alumni with relevant backgrounds, the committee builds on the values offered by organisational activities including start-up consulting services, roadshows, and investment matching, etc.

Shenzhen AA also organises anniversary celebrations as a platform for alumni to come together to share industry updates and catalyse market opportunities. The latest one was held in November 2020, with 200 alumni attending the meeting in person and some 100 more joining the live stream session on the Internet.

Q2. Can you share with us upcoming plans of the Shenzhen Alumni Association in 2021/22?

For the year 2021/2022, Shenzhen AA is stepping up its efforts in promoting the professional development of alumni, with focus on the convergence of entrepreneurship, technology, and finance in the city. We will continue to offer fraternal support for alumni of the CUHK Business School to grow through our talk series and other off- and on-line activities.

CUHK EMBA (Chinese) Alumni Association
The CUHK EMBA (Chinese) Alumni Association was founded in September 2019 under the guiding principles of connection, contribution, cooperation, and collaboration. President Dong Wang (EMBA Xi’an 2010) envisages continued engagement and connection between alumni and their alma mater, facilitated and strengthened by the Association as a bridge.

Dialogue with the President

Q1. What is your current job? Please briefly describe your professional work scope or responsibilities.

I have been working in the medical and healthcare industry for long. In 2015, I founded the “Joint Orthopaedics”, a medical services platform, as part of my pursuit of the advancement of orthopaedics in China, with a view to promoting optimal and equal access to medical and healthcare resources. I am currently the Chairman of the platform.

Q2. When did you become the President of the EMBA (Chinese) Alumni Association and what is your vision for it in the wider alumni community?

I came on board as President of the EMBA (Chinese) Alumni Association in January 2021. The Association is operated in the spirit of connection, contribution, cooperation, and collaboration under the guidance of the University motto ‘Through learning and temperance to virtue’. We strive to consolidate resources for EMBA (Chinese) alumni and strengthen their ties with their alma mater in our position as a “reliable post-EMBA haven”.

The EMBA (Chinese) programme has always been a meeting point for elites from all walks of life, whose experiences and insights feed the blueprint for growth among alumni. The rich social resources enjoyed by the EMBA (Chinese) alumni community, on the other hand, can be channelled through the University towards driving and creating opportunities for the future development of students and alumni in the Asia-Pacific region. I would like to see more alumni entrepreneurs joining our cause to contribute to society and the development of its various industries.

Q3. What kind of activities/ engagement does the EMBA (Chinese) Alumni Association usually organise, or can you introduce to us some of the highlight activities in the past?

We organise regular visits and salons for alumni to learn from and exchange with each other. Last year, the Association-led visits to listed companies including Kingfa Science & Technology, BGI Group, Stanley Agricultural Group and Chen Ke Ming Food Manufacturing received overwhelming response and acclaims from alumni. Additionally, we invited elite alumni to join us in sharing expertise with students and fellow alumni during the pandemic, which helped strengthen the ties within the community while nurturing in each member a sense of belonging to the Association as well as the University.

Q4. Can you share with us upcoming plans of the EMBA (Chinese) Alumni Association in 2021/22?

The strategic plan for the Association in 2021/22 is centred on creating a “reliable post-EMBA haven” with a continued stream of activities, including corporate visits by city which take participants into the pulsating heart of successful business governance to learn from high-flying fellow alumni. Meanwhile, the Association will continue to connect alumni through sports and business-oriented activities such as team battles, golfing club, fintech club, and post-EMBA continuing education salon, etc.
